1.
Tools required
All
the nuts and bolts used on the donor vehicle are AF so
it's a good investment to buy a set of AF spanners and perhaps a
socket set.
The new parts will use metric fixings so do take care to keep old
and new bolts apart.
A hacksaw can be used to remove
the old fibreglass but I prefer to use an angle grinder keeping
any cutting to a minimum with large panel sizes.
A fire extinguisher is a sensible addition
to the workshop and a dust mask should be worn if you are grinding
away old fibreglass.
2. Setting out the workshop
When you start rebuilding the chassis I
find it a great advantage to raise the car to waist height to save
bending over all the time
This can be done by fabricating some stands or buying some trestle
frames to sit under the chassis.
3. Safety
First
job must be to remove the battery
and petrol tank taking the necessary care. Make sure the petrol
tank is emptied and stored safety away from any hazards.
This done you can now start stripping the car.
4. Now you can Strip
Start by stripping out the inside of the
vehicle take care in the removal of the wiring harness,
switches and dials if you wish to reuse this in the Tempest.
For safety, remove all combustible materials,
carpets, seats etc particularly if you are using a grinder
Unbolt the steering assembly,
brake/ clutch pedal assembly and retain them for reuse.
