Phase
1
Once all the refurbishment is done its
time to start building the car.
First job is to remove the 2" dia. hooped rear tube and a
section of the tube previously attaching the gearbox - diagrams
provided. You should also remove the surplus front outriggers,
and a semi circular cut out is needed in the gearbox support to
allow for the speedo cable
If
you wish to paint the chassis, you will need a special
primer to etch the galvanising - not etching primer. We have found
a product called Morgan T-wash available from commercial paint
suppliers - the product is used to prime galvanised steel railings!
Start
the build by fitting the engine-mounting bracket. To
do this turn the chassis upside down and fix the bracket to the
underside in the position shown in the drawings.
Fix the suspension-lowering
bracket. This fits in the holes previously occupied
by the upper front spring mounting, and then the front springs
are repositioned in the new bracket.
Fix the new gearbox
bracket
Reassemble front and rear suspension assemblies
Install engine / gearbox assembly
Fit radiator
Fit prop shaft
Affix the steel frame to the chassis
using the location brackets provided
Fit the bulkhead, floor pan, rear floor and running board supports
Phase
2
Attach the aluminium panels
to the main frame
Attach the fibreglass panelling
- this should be done carefully using the instructions provided.
Fit them once to make sure everything is drilled and bolted properly
and then remove them to enable painting of the body and panels
- best carried out separately.
Paint can then be applied
and the panels refitted using beaded jointing to protect and enhance
the appearance.
Phase
3
Fit the dash, refit the wiring
harness
Refit the pedal assembly,
steering column, clutch and accelerator components
Trim the body tub
Fix the windscreen, hardwood
door hinge supports and fix doors
Fit seat belts and handbrake
assembly
Trim the bonnet to fit the opening,
connect up brakes, petrol tank, radiator fixings and other smaller
items and bingo - another
Tempest is born!
